Feeling boxed in by social media? Tired of curating your content for algorithms instead of real people? What if there’s a better way to reach your audience—one that actually lets you be you?
Documenting Over Creating
Let’s talk about the difference between documenting and creating. Creating is about crafting content for algorithms, promoting the destination more than the journey. Documenting, however, is raw, real, and far less polished. It’s about sharing each step, whether it’s a win or a lesson learned.
For me, documenting feels authentic. It lets me connect with others who are also searching for something real, not just a perfectly curated story…
So, that’s what I’m doing here!
Breaking Out of the Social Media Box
After a decade in social media, I noticed something frustrating: platforms like Instagram and Twitter often feel limiting, especially when you’re multi-passionate. How do you neatly package a personality that’s constantly evolving? It doesn’t work for everyone, and that’s okay.
Instead of sticking to a single social media persona, I’m trying something different: using Google Ads to target niche audiences directly. This way, I’m not confined by the expectations of a single social media feed, and I can connect with each audience based on what they actually want.
Why Google Ads?
You might be wondering why I didn’t just stick with Instagram or Facebook ads. Well, when people are scrolling through social media, they’re usually not there to buy something—they’re there to relax, be entertained, or connect with friends.
With Google, it’s different. People go there to search for solutions. If someone is dealing with TMJ, they’re looking for help, and my book on TMJ solutions can show up as a genuine answer to their problem. It’s about being there when they need you, rather than interrupting them when they don’t.
Investing Money vs. Time
One big lesson I’ve learned? Marketing doesn’t have to be a choice between no money or tons of time. Social media might not require upfront cash, but it definitely costs you in hours and energy. For those of us who don’t fit into a single box, spending all that time trying to build a following for different projects can feel exhausting.
Sometimes, investing financially—like in targeted ads—can actually be more efficient. I’m paying to connect directly with the people who need what I’m offering, rather than pouring hours into capturing attention on a platform that might not even fit my audience.
Getting Creative with How You Reach Your Audience
Today’s tools, like AI and niche-targeted ads, give us so much room to work with. I’m using resources like ChatGPT to strategize ways that fit my unique approach. I might not fit into a typical niche, but that doesn’t mean I can’t reach the right people. It just means I’m taking a different route.
For any fellow creators, especially those who are multi-passionate, here’s my advice: embrace your individuality. Social media is just one tool; it doesn’t define you. Don’t feel boxed in by traditional methods if they don’t work for you. There’s a whole world out there waiting to connect with you your way.
Conclusion
So, that’s where I am—documenting, experimenting, and sharing the journey. If you’re also looking to break out of the social media box, I hope this approach gives you some ideas. Sometimes the best strategies are the ones that feel a little different, and honestly, that’s where the magic happens.
Let me know if you’re trying something similar, or if there’s a strategy that’s working for you. Here’s to finding creative ways to reach the right people without compromising on who we are!
