The Art of Making Your Mark

I just want to start by expressing my gratitude for all the energy you've been sending my way. And when I say energy, I mean ALL of it.

You'll be glad to know I transmuted that energy and channeled it into an ebook.

And now don't worry, I'm not going to try and sell you on it.

I know I've been using a lot of short, punchy sentences, which are customary to direct response marketing. But, I've only adopted this mechanism because I have the tendency to be verbose.

Using these sentences over longer paragraphs helps the narrative flow more easily and they provide more clarity than my normal speaking pattern.

Speaking of patterns-- For years, I've been striving for a lighter work schedule to focus more on writing. Finally, I got there, but strangely, my mind kept wandering back to the typical business hustle – social media strategies, marketing plans, and the like.

Then, I came across a video by Alex Hormozi, a seasoned entrepreneur. He emphasized the choice between playing the small game of daily hustles or the long game of building your brand over time.

According to him, building a brand is about sharing your philosophy on life and the stories you want people to tell about you, more than it's about selling actual products.

Call me naive, but all this thinking of yourself as a business, especially in this era of pervasive social media, has been a learning curve for me.

And the concept that Alex presented got me thinking...

I have the luxury of time right now. I work freelance. I make my own schedule. I've got multiple streams of income. I don't need every aspect of my life to revolve around selling.

That's why I made a conscious decision not to bombard you with direct calls to action in every email.

This brings me to our Spanish lesson of the week, where a serendipitous encounter with the word 'brand' on a Pinterest pin validates what Alex has shared.

As I found myself immersed in the labyrinth of Pinterest, I stumbled upon a captivating branding pin.

As I gazed upon the pin, adorned with vibrant colors and intriguing imagery, one word stood out among the rest – "marca."

In that moment, it wasn't merely a word; it was a portal to understanding.

"Marca," or "brand" in Spanish means just what it sounds like “mark.” And it speaks of more than just business or commerce; it whispers of identity, of leaving an your mark upon the world.

It was a revelation that transcended language barriers, resonating deep within my soul.

For "marca" isn't just about crafting a brand; it's about weaving a tapestry of stories, values, and connections. It embodied the essence of making your mark, of imprinting your essence upon the fabric of existence.

So instead of just focusing on building a brand, let's focus on making our mark – forging meaningful connections and sharing our stories without always pushing a product or service.

Now if you’re wondering, “Sylvia, where they do that at?!” Then check out Very Human Social or VHS, a pop-up social club!

I attended their speed friending event last night, like speed dating but for friends, perfect for introverted, introspective types who enjoy solitary activities and work from home. ;)

Organized by creative types, not the usual business crowd, it focused more on hobbies and art rather than work.

The deep conversation starters led to philosophical discussions, making it refreshing compared to typical networking events. I highly recommend checking them out. Tell them I sent you, or don't, your call.
